Jack’s Philosophy: Being fortunate to have spent time with some of the game’s best players and coaches, I have come to realize that not much needs to be said to the student to get great results. I believe that the fundamentals need to be solid to have a swing that will hold up under pressure, even if that means at your local Club Championship or a tour event. I believe that having a consistently good impact condition is the key to getting better and I do use drills to improve your impact on shots of any distance. I would say at The Vintage Club I spend at least half of my time giving short game lessons and I do agree that the quickest way to improve your score is working on 100 yards and in. I do not over teach and honestly say as little as possible in a lesson to keep the student focused on 1 or 2 things tops at a time. I feel that teaching golf is as much as an art form as playing golf. The key to teaching golf is finding out about the student and his or her learning style and developing a language that makes sense to each individual. I would say that most golfers have too much information in their mind about how to swing the club and my favorite part of the job is striping some of the clutter away and find the students authentic swing, which everyone has.
